Pastor Jeff grew up in the farming community of Sandwich, IL, and has been active in many phases of ministry since age 13. He began preaching at age 15. He has served as Pastor, Associate Pastor, School Principal, Police and Hospital Chaplain as well as other Chaplain roles. He loves to teach the practical aspects of the Bible, and has written columns for three newspapers. Pastor Jeff is a community Pastor who wishes to be an encouragement to everyone. He was recently a Rotarian and President of his local Clergy Association.

Mary grew up in Merrillville, IN. Besides loving being a mom, a grandparent to seven grandchildren and enjoying ministry with Pastor Jeff, Mary completed her Bachelor degree in Social Work and obtained an MA in counseling. Over the years she has worked in Social Services in two nursing homes, at two mental health agencies working with at-risk families and has substitute taught for several years. Her hobbies are art, crafts with the grandkids, reading and walking (in nice weather!). She loves scripture and making Bible stories and principles applicable to daily living.

Pastor Jeff and Mary have been married 41 years and in the ministry for over 35 years in Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina and Indiana. They have two adult children and seven wonderful grandchildren. They have a passion for helping young parents and their children, having once served in Residential Therapeutic Foster Care. Salem United Church of Christ extended their invitation for Pastor Jeff to become their 25th minister on Nov. 1, 2020. Besides wanting to diligently serve the church, they work to be community minded and look forward to serving for many years.
